About IPRIntellectual property is a major contributor to U.S. economic growth, employment and success in the global economy. U.S. industries from all sectors of the economy face major challenges around the world to their trademarks, copyrights, patents and other forms of intellectual property. In some cases, countries lack rules protecting against piracy and intellectual-property theft; in others, countries take affirmative actions through legislation, regulations or product approvals that undermine or eviscerate core intellectual property rights. In all of these cases, U.S. industries, their workers, governments and often, consumers themselves, are harmed due to the loss of tax revenue. The protection of intellectual property rights is, therefore, a vital component of U.S. trade and investment policy that is necessary to support continued U.S. competitiveness worldwide and economic growth here in the United States. ECAT strongly supports the negotiation, implementation and enforcement of strong protections for intellectual property rights worldwide.
