ECAT WELCOMES SENATE PASSAGE OF U.S.-PERU TRADE AGREEMENT
Urges Prompt Implementation, So that Benefits Will Flow Sooner Rather than Later
Washington, D.C., December 4, 2007: Calman Cohen, President of the Emergency Committee for American Trade (ECAT), applauded today’s Senate vote to approve and implement the U.S.-Peru Trade Promotion Agreement (TPA):
“ECAT welcomes today’s strong and bipartisan Senate vote in support of an improved economic relationship with Peru. With today’s vote, Congress has completed its legislative process for approving and implementing the U.S.-Peru TPA. ECAT now looks forward to Peru’s timely implementation of its commitments, so that this agreement can enter into force sooner rather than later. Once in force, this agreement will provide new economic opportunities for U.S. farmers, manufacturers and service providers and promote our broader American interests in the continued growth and development of a stable ally in the Western Hemisphere.
“ECAT and its member companies applaud the work of Senate leaders who worked together in support of passage of this agreement, including Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus and Ranking Member Charles Grassley. ECAT urges the Senate to continue these efforts and support timely passage of the other key trade agreements that have been negotiated.”
